Partners Read places volunteers into Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) elementary schools to read with developing first and second grade readers and provides books to fill students’ home libraries. The program is managed by the WakeEd partnership, which works collaboratively with Wake County Public Schools, community volunteers, and businesses to ensure that every student graduates with the tools needed to succeed in a global economy. Check out their website for more information and video testimonials.
Program Dates:
The dates of the 2024 fall semester are to be determined... The volunteer(s) would need to commit to all dates (spring dates will be posted later this year). We need two (or more) volunteers for each slot currently. Each volunteer would need to be at Cary Elementary School at 8:40 am (Check in at the main office then head to the media center). Each will be assigned two students in consecutive time slots:
8:45 - 9:00 am
9:00 - 9:15 am
If a volunteer needs to be absent, they would need to let the coordinator know as soon as possible so a substitute reader may be found. Each volunteer also needs to complete a virtual training (the link will be provided directly) and sign up to be a volunteer through the WCPSS system.
