The Bookstop is a PTA-run used bookstore located in the main hallway. The Bookstop began more than 25 years ago when a parent wondered what to do with her kids' old books.
You may have seen your students coming home with books with small circle stickers (yellow, red, blue or green) on the top right corner of them. These books were purchased by your student in the Bookstop and are theirs to keep, period! Students can earn pretend "BookBucks" in 2 ways. First, BookBucks are given to students from any teacher as incentives for positive behavior.
Second, students can "sell" their used books to the Bookstop, with their parent's permission, and will be paid in BookBucks, which they can use to purchase their next Bookstop book. Bookstop is a great way for students who love to read to get new reading material on a weekly basis. It is also a great way for parents to "upcycle" their children's old books they are no longer interested in.
We are always in need of book donations! We need your donations to keep the shelves stocked. We are always looking for in demand books: Dogman, Diary of a Wimpy kid, Dork diaries, Minecraft, etc. Books like these will earn double BookBucks! Students can bring books to sell on their designated Bookstop day, or parents are always welcome to drop off boxes of donated books in the front office.
We need you!! If you would like to volunteer, we are always in need of Bookstop helpers. It’s an easy fun job that allows you to meet and engage with the students of Cary Elementary. The Bookstop encourages kids' “ownership” in reading as the kids own the books they “buy”. It also teaches them about shopping and money. And it's recycling at its best!! The Bookstop could not be possible without the help of our community, students and parents.
Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering!
