Cary PTA News

June
President's Message

Picture
By Viviana Valle
June 5, 2023
One of my favorite things as a kid was when my teacher would pass out the list of books that were recommended reading for the summer. I was a bookworm anyway, so I usually had them all read by the end of July. Don’t worry, I’m not going to assign books to busy parents over the summer! However, I would love to invite you to... Go to Post ->

Cultural Arts: 4th Grade Student Honored

May, 2023
Fourth Grader Meredith Kraft was honored at the United Arts Council's annual Writers Share event on June 1. Meredith worked on her story "Mariana" during a five-day writing workshop with local writer Diane Jarrett. The Workshop was one of many Cultural Arts programming events the PTA brought into classrooms at Cary Elementary School this year in part thanks to a grant from the United Arts Council.
Congratulations Meredith on your achievement!

Bookstop

Picture
We are happy to announce the reopening of the Cary Elementary Bookstop this year from 8:45-9:30 beginning October 11th. The Bookstop is a PTA-run used bookstore located in the school. The success of Bookstop is due in large part to the support of parent volunteers and our school staff... and of course donated books! Please contact Karen Thomson ([email protected]) or visit the Bookstop webpage for more info about the program and volunteering.
October 29th, 2022
Family-friendly mayhem and mania broke out at the Cary Elementary parking lot the Saturday before Halloween, 2022. Ghouls and goblins looted parked cars for their candy. Princesses and woodland creatures got their share as well, while winning several games of skill and chance in the process.

Fun for Everyone

Megan Van Hook, our spectacular Sponsorship Co-Chair for this school year, shared her thoughts as a trunk participant of CES PTA’s first ever Trunk-or-Treat:
Great job organizing and such a great turnout!  The kids loved seeing their friends and we loved that the 1st and 2nd grade teachers also participated.  Coming out of covid, being part of events like this is a great way to get connected with the school.  Was a lot of fun, can’t wait for next year!
Some ideas for next year, maybe giving out prizes for most creative costume, best trunk, school spirit etc.  Also could include some additional games, bouncy houses or food trucks to add to the fun.
//

The Music You Heard

One of the most powerful aspects of the Trunk or Treat event was the stellar playlist curated by Sergio Marti. Check out the lineup of classic favorites here to relive the Trunk or Treat experience anytime of year. Click here for the lineup pdf.

The 2022 Details...

Who: Any Cary Cougar can join in!  (All children MUST be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult).

Where: We will meet at the "Old Library Lawn" on Academy St. across from The Cotton House.

When: Wednesday, October 12th.
7:45 - Earlybirds can decorate the sidewalk with Ms. Garton.
8:00-8:15 - Everyone gathers at the Lawn.
   8:32 - Parade to school.

What: We will then proceed to walk to school as a large group between 8:30 and 8:45 am, crossing the street together as a united group. There will be music and tons of fun.

Keep in Mind: Walkers who cannot make the park event should enter the doors near the office (Kildaire Farms side) to be recognized.

If you usually walk or ride to school, please join us, and encourage your friends who have not tried walking or biking to join in for this day.

Please make sure you “sign in” when you arrive so that we know how many excited students showed up. And sign the banner too, to make your efforts known!

And DON'T FORGET your spirit wear!

On Wednesday Morning (October 12th, 2022):

Gather at 8:00-8:15 am at the “Old Library Lawn” to join your fellow Cary Elementary School students, families, and neighbors (and PAWS the CARY COUGAR!) for a spirited and safe walk and roll to school. Free to participate and no registration is required!

There will be music and lessons on pedestrian and biker safety. This is important in our community, where we have a large percentage of children that walk or ride to school. Show up early at 7:45 if you'd like to have fun decorating the sidewalk with Ms. Garton (Art).

At 8:32 on the dot, we'll parade to school, with the Cary Police Department will helping us on our way. Wear your Cougar Gear or favorite blue and yellow outfit!

And until September 30th, 2022...

Your registration automatically enters you into a drawing for one of two Target gift cards!
