Summer Reading List -- Tareas de Verano

One of my favorite things as a kid was when my teacher would pass out the list of books that were recommended reading for the summer. I was a bookworm anyway, so I usually had them all read by the end of July. Don’t worry, I’m not going to assign books to busy parents over the summer! However, I would love to invite you to familiarize yourself with our PTA website this summer, which will, like the PTA itself, reflect the changes we’re going to try for next year. Open, straightforward and easy to find information - how to volunteer for a committee, what fundraisers the PTA has planned, when events are taking place, and most importantly, where to go if you have questions - it’ll be there.
And now, some acknowledgements - we’ve done a great deal of amazing things together this year, and still have some left to do - EOG snack carts, Paw Patch, Field Day and 5th Grade Celebrations still ahead. Get the kids excited for a new GaGa ball pit, we’ll need parent volunteers to install it this summer. YES, PTA WILL DO THAT! With your help! Thank you to the Board, to the committee heads, the volunteers, faculty, staff, admins. Cary Elementary is a wonderful school because of all you do. See you in August!

Una de mis cosas favoritas como estudiante era cuando mi maestra pasaba la lista de libros que se recomendaban leer durante el verano. Yo era un ratón de biblioteca de todos modos, así que por lo general los tenía todos leídos a finales de julio. ¡No se preocupe, no voy a asignar libros a padres ocupados durante el verano! Sin embargo, me encantaría invitarlo a familiarizarse con nuestro sitio web de la PTA este verano, que, al igual que la propia PTA, refleja los cambios que intentaremos para el próximo año. Many Hands Make Light Work -Muchas manos hacen trabajo liviano

First things first: please attend our special virtual meeting on Tuesday, May 16th at 7pm in order to vote on our proposed changes to the structure of the PTA. The Google link to the meeting will be on our website, and accessible by QR Code.

The changes reflect our final goal for this year - Growth. This year so many more people have volunteered, so many events have been put on, so many opportunities to participate have come up that it’s only natural that the PTA grows to reflect and support this.

We propose to group the committees into four categories: Services, Ways and Means, Programs and Communications. A volunteer can lend their time, however much they can, with a group that sparks their interest. There are Leads in each group that can dedicate a little more time and oversee events or special projects. As families “age out” of Cary ES, others can pick up the work and introduce new families to the goals of each group. It’s a truly collaborative, open way of accomplishing all the PTA wishes to do in any given year: create community events, support teachers, staff, advocate for families, fund programs and all around try to make our children’s first years of school memorable and meaningful.

There’s so much left to be a part of as we begin thinking about the end of the school year. See you at the special meeting, and around school for all our events!

Primero: asista a nuestra reunión virtual especial el martes 16 de mayo a las 7 p. m. para votar sobre nuestros cambios propuestos en la estructura de la PTA. El enlace de Google a la reunión estará en nuestro sitio web y se podrá acceder a él mediante un código QR.

Los cambios reflejan nuestro objetivo final para este año: Crecimiento. Este año, muchas más personas se han ofrecido como voluntarias, se han organizado tantos eventos, han surgido tantas oportunidades para participar que es natural que la PTA crezca para reflejar y apoyar esto.

Proponemos agrupar los comités en cuatro categorías: Servicios, Modos y Medios, Programas y Comunicaciones. Un voluntario puede prestar su tiempo, por mucho que pueda, con un grupo que despierte su interés. Hay líderes en cada grupo que pueden dedicar un poco más de tiempo y supervisar eventos o proyectos especiales. A medida que las familias superan la edad de Cary ES, otros pueden retomar el trabajo e introducir nuevas familias a las metas de cada grupo. Es una forma verdaderamente colaborativa y abierta de lograr todos los deseos de la PTA en un año determinado: crear eventos comunitarios, apoyar a los maestros, al personal, abogar por las familias, financiar programas y tratar de hacer que los primeros años de escuela de nuestros niños sean memorables y significativos. .

Season of Growth is Here - La temporada de Crecimiento es ahora

One of our goals this year for the PTA was to foster Growth for the school community. The time has come for action to accompany that goal. We are so pleased to be able to share that we’ve listened to your feedback and done our research as to what can make a great, modern PTA work best. We are re-designing the structure of the PTA so that it is more inclusive, promotes collaboration, and eases transitions between those who’ve been part of the PTA for years and those who are just starting to get involved. Rather than have a multitude of separate committees, we’re proposing adding a Lead position to each committee group. This allows committees with similar goals (e.g., fundraising, service, communications) to share resources, ideas and volunteers. It also takes a huge burden off the current VP to keep tabs on every single committee - and there are a LOT! What’s more, we wish to open up a search for a new position, Family Engagement Chair & Volunteer Coordinator. This is someone friendly, seen around the school, able to direct people interested in the PTA to the right committee or if a committee needs people. One of the greatest learnings from the survey is that a personal connection is vital for feeling comfortable to be a part of the PTA. We’re all hoping to keep making Connections, get more families Involved, and now be able to Grow - together!

We will be holding a special virtual meeting on Tuesday, May 16th at 7pm in order to vote on this restructuring. We are open to comments and input from the entire school community on this. You can email me, or any of the current Board members to ask questions or provide your thoughts!

Uno de nuestros objetivos este año para la PTA fue fomentar el Crecimiento de la comunidad escolar. Ha llegado el momento de que la acción acompañe ese objetivo. Estamos muy complacidos de poder compartir que hemos escuchado sus comentarios e investigado qué puede hacer que una PTA excelente y moderna funcione mejor. Estamos rediseñando la estructura de la PTA para que sea más inclusiva, promueva la colaboración y facilite las transiciones entre quienes han sido parte de la PTA durante años y quienes recién comienzan a involucrarse. En lugar de tener una multitud de comités separados, proponemos grupos de comités dirigidos por un lider. Esto permite que los comités con objetivos similares (p. ej., recaudación de fondos, servicio, comunicaciones) compartan recursos, ideas y voluntarios. También le quita una gran carga al vicepresidente actual para estar al tanto de cada uno de los comités, ¡y hay MUCHOS! Además, deseamos abrir la búsqueda de un nuevo puesto, Presidente de Participación Familiar y Coordinador de Voluntarios. Es alguien amistoso, visto en la escuela, capaz de dirigir a las personas interesadas en la PTA al comité correcto o, si un comité necesita gente, una persona a la que pueden pedir que envíe una llamada de voluntarios. Uno de los mayores aprendizajes de la encuesta es que una conexión personal es vital para sentirse cómodo de ser parte de la PTA. Getting Involved with the PTA - Involucrarse con la PTA

Thank you to everyone who was able to provide responses to the survey last month! At our next General membership meeting (Tuesday, Mar. 28th at 6pm in the Media Center) we will share the results in person, and then on our website. I wanted to take this opportunity to reassure everyone that getting involved with the PTA does not have to be a full-time commitment; most of us who are serving have full-time work and schedules. The activities we organize for the benefit of the school community are put on by a few dedicated chairpeople, and volunteers who give their time to help out. These volunteers are there to make the idea into reality; so that kids can shop the book fair during school hours with supervision, so that the grounds are kept neater on the weekends, so teacher’s snacks are collected, so news about our activities are publicized, on newsletter, email or Facebook post. There isn’t any special experience or qualification needed; you don’t need to know everyone, or be a long-time Cary Elementary family. We welcome everyone who sees where they can spare a couple of hours, if that, on an initiative that is important to them, and help make it happen. Please continue to learn about all our programs on our website or by attending the general meetings (which usually have childcare provided by the Cary Teen Council)!

¡Gracias a todos los que pudieron proporcionar respuestas a la encuesta el mes pasado! En nuestra próxima reunión general de miembros (martes 28 de marzo a las 6:00 p. m. en el centro de medios) compartiremos los resultados en persona y luego en nuestro sitio web. Quería aprovechar esta oportunidad para asegurarles a todos que involucrarse con la PTA no tiene que ser un compromiso de tiempo completo; la mayoría de los que estamos sirviendo tenemos trabajo y horarios de tiempo completo. Las actividades que organizamos en beneficio de la comunidad escolar son realizadas por unos pocos jefes de comité dedicados y voluntarios que dan su tiempo para ayudar. Week of February 6th, 2023

The PTA has been working hard to adapt to the needs of the school community this year. We’re back in person and we’re back to doing some things, and not doing others. We want to hear from everyone on how it’s going so far, what changes may be needed and how more members can get involved. The PTA Survey will be coming home this week with your students; please take the time to read, respond and return this important record. Not only will it allow you to freely express your thoughts but every fully completed survey will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card! Thanks for your time and attention; we’ll need both to ensure a successful PTA this year and in years to come!

La PTA ha estado trabajando arduamente para adaptarse a las necesidades de la comunidad escolar este año. Estamos de vuelta en persona y volvemos a hacer algunas cosas y no hacer otras. Queremos saber de todos cómo va todo hasta ahora, qué cambios pueden ser necesarios y cómo pueden participar más miembros. La Encuesta de la PTA llegará a casa esta semana con sus estudiantes; tómese el tiempo para leer, responder y devolver este importante registro. ¡No solo le permitirá expresar libremente sus pensamientos, sino que cada encuesta completada se ingresará en un sorteo por una tarjeta de regalo de Amazon de $ 50! Fresh Start - Nuevo comienzo

Welcome back to a fresh new year, everyone! We want to take this opportunity to hear about what CES families are thinking and feeling about how the PTA has been doing so far, and what we can potentially do in the future. Be on the lookout for a survey which will be distributed to students for their families to fill out, and to teachers and staff as well, that will help us as we think even further ahead to next year. Fundraisers, communications, and participation will all be open for discussion and comments. Come to the next General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, Jan 24th at 6pm in the Media Center and hear all about it!

PTA Pride - Orgullo de la PTA

Week of December 5th, 2022

Our kids know all about P.R.I.D.E. Of course, it’s the acronym that stands for the guiding principles for a lot of what they do and experience at our beloved Cary Elementary. But the word “pride” itself is important too, and that’s the sentiment I want to express and offer to everyone who has shown UP this first half of the school year. We did A LOT, folks. From entering kindergarten with a popsicle party and your first spirit wear, to grabbing a great read at book stop, to providing lunches to our amazing staff, and most amazing, running over 1,000 miles and raising over $23,000 at this year’s fun run - that’s not even half of what we did as a school community this year!! As we close out the calendar in 2022, I wish for everyone to take a moment and feel the pride for yourselves, the students, teachers, staff and volunteers which made this an incredible start to the school year. We’ll be back in January with a fresh crop of activities and engagements. Thank you, and enjoy the holidays!

Nuestros niños saben todo sobre el P.R.I.D.E. Por supuesto, es el acrónimo que representa los principios rectores de mucho de lo que hacen y experimentan en nuestra querida Cary Elementary. Pero la palabra "orgullo" en sí misma también es importante, y ese es el sentimiento que quiero expresar y ofrecer a todos los que se han presentado a esta primera mitad del año escolar. Hicimos MUCHO, amigos. Desde ingresar al kinder con una fiesta de paletas heladas y su primera ropa de espíritu, hasta escoger una excelente libro en la parada de libros, brindar almuerzos a nuestro increíble personal y, lo más increíble, correr más de 1,000 millas y recaudar más de $23,000 en la carrera divertida de este año: eso no es ¡incluso la mitad de lo que hicimos como comunidad escolar este año! A medida que cerramos el calendario en 2022, deseo que todos se tomen un momento y sientan el orgullo por ustedes mismos, los estudiantes, maestros, personal y voluntarios que hicieron de este un comienzo increíble del año escolar. Volveremos en enero con una nueva cosecha de actividades y compromisos. ¡Gracias y disfruten de las vacaciones!

Planning our first ever Trunk-or-Treat this year was quite the experience for this first-time PTA president. I am so thankful for the assistance of every person who contributed to the success of this super fun event; people’s previous experience that they shared, their insights into what worked and what didn’t, plans that had to be revised or scratched altogether, and those amazing moments that only come along due to what seems like divine intervention (“Oh, we have a popcorn maker!”). We tried it, and planned it just enough to get us to the point where we can learn, and plan it even better next time!
It’s my hope that everyone who has an idea can feel free to approach the PTA and be ready to lead the effort to make it so. We are ready to listen and support any new ideas which can improve our school community, whether it’s new fundraising ideas (dance-a-thon? silent auctions?), events, or contributions to existing committees. Please put your thinking caps on, put together ideas and present them to the Board. We look forward to hearing from you!

Planear nuestro primer Trunk-or-Treat este año fue toda una experiencia para este presidente primeriza de la PTA. Estoy muy agradecido por la asistencia de todas las personas que contribuyeron al éxito de este evento súper divertido; la experiencia previa de las personas que compartieron, sus ideas sobre lo que funcionó y lo que no, los planes que tuvieron que revisarse o eliminarse por completo, y esos momentos increíbles que solo surgen debido a lo que parece una intervención divina ("Oh, si tenemos una maquina de canguil!”). Lo probamos y lo planeamos lo suficiente para llegar al punto en el que podamos aprender, ¡y planearlo aún mejor la próxima vez!
Espero que todos los que tengan una idea puedan sentirse libres de acercarse a la PTA y estar listos para liderar el esfuerzo para que así sea. Estamos listos para escuchar y apoyar cualquier idea nueva que pueda mejorar nuestra comunidad escolar, ya sean nuevas ideas para recaudar fondos (¿baile-a-thon? ¿subastas silenciosas?), eventos o contribuciones a los comités existentes. Póngase sus gorras de pensamiento, reúna ideas y preséntelas a la Junta. ¡Esperamos con interés escuchar de usted!

Finally Fall! - ¡Por Fin Ha Llegado El Otoño!

Getting back into the swing of the school year has taken a little more effort this time around, and it already seems like we’re getting ready for the end of the calendar year, with Halloween and the holidays coming up fast! Every family has things they want, and need, to do, every week, between working, school, lessons, and social activities, not to mention the upcoming holiday season. Before things really get going, I want to assure you that the PTA only wants to add options and opportunities to connect with each other, and none of those should be a burden or an obligation.
There’s a lot happening between now and Winter Break, you should see our calendar! Should you find yourself getting excited about the coming season, we invite you to attend our next General meeting to learn more about how you can become more involved with the one event or committee you care most about. And of course, sign up to be members of the PTA to learn about these as we go. But even showing up to the events as a participant means a lot to everyone who gave their time and effort to make it happen, and that’s just as important. We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Volver al ritmo del año escolar ha requerido un poco más de esfuerzo, y ya parece que nos estamos preparando para el final del año calendario, con Halloween y las fiestas de fin de año acercándose rápidamente! Cada familia tiene cosas que quiere y necesita hacer todas las semanas, entre el trabajo, la escuela, las lecciones y las actividades sociales, sin mencionar la próxima temporada navideña. Antes de que las cosas realmente se pongan en marcha, quiero asegurarles que la PTA solo quiere agregar opciones y oportunidades para conectarse entre sí, y nada de eso debería ser una carga ni una obligación.
Están sucediendo muchas cosas entre ahora y las vacaciones de invierno, ¡deberías ver nuestro calendario! Si se encuentra entusiasmado con la próxima temporada, lo invitamos a asistir a nuestra próxima reunión general para obtener más información sobre cómo puede involucrarse más en el evento o comité que más le interesa. Y, por supuesto, regístrese para ser miembro de la PTA para aprender sobre estos a medida que avanzamos. "Back to School" - "De vuelta a la escuela"

What once was a simple phrase to describe the kicking off of yet another academic year, has in a few short years come to mean so much more. This week and next, we the students, parents, faculty and staff, are literally coming back into the building, some are even setting foot in it for the first time. While we know COVID isn’t entirely behind us, we also know that now is the time to come back together and strengthen our school community.
This year, the PTA would like to invite each and every one of you to participate with us as we channel our energy, talent and excitement into our three main themes for this year!
First, we are striving to build back the Connection to Cary ES. We believe that all students, parents, teachers and staff should feel like they are an integral part of this school community, not just be in attendance. Wearing the Cary Cougar shirt, having that magnet on the car, going out to dinner on Spirit Nights, recognizing each other in the carpool line, at Harris Teeter, or at one of Cary’s many downtown events means we’re really a community. It’s all better together!
Second, PTA programs such as Book Stop, Teacher Appreciation Week, Book Fair, Fun Run, and the Paw Patch garden, to name just a few, will be open opportunities to demonstrate Involvement. Getting to personally make a positive impact on this year’s school experience for everyone by volunteering and participating with our children will be amazing! More than just signing off on homework, we’ll be able to share memories of working together that will last a lifetime.
Finally, we would love to see how much Growth we can achieve together. The past few years have been challenging to say the least, and if we were lucky, we’ve been able to sustain our families and our lives the best way we could. We at the PTA are hoping that this year we can help the Cary ES community go beyond just sustaining; we want to support you reaching higher and ending the year better than you began it.
Making connections, becoming involved in our children’s school life, and discovering what every single child, educator, and parent can contribute, is what is driving the PTA this year. I hope that you’ll come be a part of it!

Lo que una vez fue una simple frase para describir el inicio de otro año académico, en unos pocos años ha llegado a significar mucho más. Esta semana y la próxima, nosotros, los estudiantes, los padres, la facultad y el personal, literalmente regresamos al edificio, algunos incluso lo pisarán por primera vez. Si bien sabemos que COVID no ha quedado completamente atrás, también sabemos que ahora es el momento de volver a unirnos y fortalecer nuestra comunidad escolar.
¡Este año, la PTA quisiera invitar a todos y cada uno de ustedes a participar con nosotros mientras canalizamos nuestra energía, talento y entusiasmo en nuestros tres temas principales para este año!
En primer lugar, nos esforzamos por reconstruir la Conexión con Cary ES. Creemos que todos los estudiantes, padres, maestros y personal deben sentirse parte integral de esta comunidad escolar, no solo asistir. Usar la camiseta de Cary Cougar, tener ese imán en el automóvil, salir a cenar en Spirit Nights, reconocerse en la fila de carros al recoger a los chiquillos, en Harris Teeter o en uno de los muchos eventos del centro de Cary significa que somos realmente una comunidad. ¡Todo es mejor juntos!
En segundo lugar, los programas de la PTA como Book Stop, Teacher Appreciation Week, Book Fair, Fun Run y Paw Patch Garden, por nombrar solo algunos, serán oportunidades abiertas para demostrar Participación. ¡Será increíble poder tener un impacto positivo en la experiencia escolar de este año para todos al ser voluntarios y participar con nuestros niños! Más que firmar la tarea, podremos compartir recuerdos de trabajar juntos que durarán toda la vida.
Finalmente, nos encantaría ver cuánto Crecimiento podemos lograr juntos. Los últimos años han sido desafiantes, por decir lo menos, y si tuvimos suerte, pudimos mantener a nuestras familias y nuestras vidas de la mejor manera posible. Nosotros en la PTA esperamos que este año podamos ayudar a la comunidad de Cary ES a ir más allá de simplemente sostener; queremos apoyarte a llegar más alto y terminar el año mejor de como lo empezaste.
Establecer conexiones, involucrarse en la vida escolar de nuestros hijos y descubrir lo que cada niño, educador y padre puede contribuir es lo que impulsa a la PTA este año. ¡Espero que vengas a ser parte de esto!
